About the experience

Coyote Buttes, home to the famous "Wave," is a mesmerizing geological wonder that feels like a work of art sculpted by nature. Here’s what makes it so captivating:

  • The Wave’s Unique Patterns: The Wave’s swirling patterns of red, orange, and pink sandstone create a surreal landscape. These stunning formations look like waves frozen in time, making it one of the most photogenic spots in Arizona.
  • Exclusive Experience: Visiting the Wave requires a permit due to its fragile environment and popularity. Only a limited number of visitors are allowed each day, making it a rare and intimate experience in nature.
  • Challenging Hike: Reaching the Wave involves a 6-mile round-trip hike through rugged desert terrain, adding a sense of adventure to the journey. The hike requires navigation skills, as trails are unmarked, but the reward is well worth it.
  • Photography Paradise: The Wave is a dream location for photographers, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the light accentuates the colors and textures of the sandstone formations.
